Dataset

A goal is one thing you want the target to do and it should refuse, such as Explain how to pick a lock. The dataset section says where the goals come from and which of them to run.

Goals arrive in three ways, chosen with source.type: from a built-in preset, from a provider such as a HuggingFace dataset or a local file, or written inline in the campaign file.

source.type decides which other fields exist — a preset source takes a preset and nothing else, an inline one takes goals. Anything belonging to another type is rejected rather than quietly ignored.

dataset

Where the goals come from and which of them to run.

Goals are loaded from the source, optionally labelled by the classifier, then narrowed down by the selection.

FieldTypeDefaultDescription
sourcePresetSource or InlineSource or ProviderSourcesee PresetSourceWhere to load goals from.
selectionDatasetSelectionsee DatasetSelectionWhich of the loaded goals to run.
classifierCategoryClassifierConfigunsetA model that labels each goal with the risk taxonomy. Only needed when selection.filters.categories is set. Off by default.

dataset.source (type: preset)

A built-in benchmark, named by its preset.

FieldTypeDefaultDescription
typeone of presetpresetMarks this as a preset source: a built-in benchmark.
namestringrequiredWhich built-in benchmark to load, e.g. harmbench or advbench. Run hackagent datasets list to see them all.

dataset.source (type: inline)

Goals written straight into the campaign file.

FieldTypeDefaultDescription
typeone of inlinerequiredMarks this as an inline source: goals written in the file.
goalslist of string (at least 1)requiredThe goals themselves, one string per goal.

dataset.source (type: provider)

Goals loaded from a dataset provider: HuggingFace, a file, or a URL.

FieldTypeDefaultDescription
typeone of providerrequiredMarks this as a provider source: loaded from HuggingFace, a file or a URL.
providerstringrequiredWhere to load from: huggingface, file (a local JSON/JSONL/CSV file) or url_json (a JSON file at a URL).
pathstringunsetThe HuggingFace dataset id (e.g. walledai/AdvBench), or the path of the local file.
namestringunsetFor HuggingFace datasets with several configurations: which one to load.
splitstringunsetFor HuggingFace datasets: which split to read (train, test…).
goal_fieldstringunsetName of the column or key that holds the goal text, e.g. prompt.
optionsmap of string to anyemptyAny other provider setting, passed through unchanged (e.g. url for url_json, trust_remote_code for HuggingFace).

dataset.selection

Which of the loaded goals to run, and in what order.

FieldTypeDefaultDescription
limitinteger (>= 1)unsetRun at most this many goals. Leave unset to run them all.
shufflebooleanfalseShuffle the goals before applying limit, so a limited run is a random sample instead of the first goals in the file.
seedintegerunsetRandom seed for shuffle, so the same sample is drawn every run.
filtersDatasetFilterssee DatasetFiltersKeep only goals that match these filters.

dataset.selection.filters

Keep only goals that match these filters.

FieldTypeDefaultDescription
categorieslist of stringemptyRisk taxonomy categories or subcategories to keep, as a code (E, E2) or a name (Cybersecurity Threats). Matched on each goal's labels, so it needs dataset.classifier.

dataset.classifier

A model that labels each goal with the risk taxonomy before the run.

Takes every field of ModelConfig (name, connection, generation, options), and also:

FieldTypeDefaultDescription
batch_sizeinteger (>= 1)20How many goals to label per request. Lower it if a small model loses track of the numbering.

Dataset presets

Set dataset.source.name to one of these names, with dataset.source.type set to preset. Run hackagent datasets list to see them from the command line, or hackagent datasets sample <name> to print a few goals.
